Local gap colorings from edge labelings

چکیده
We study a local version of gap vertex-distinguishing edge coloring. From an edge labeling f : E(G) → {1, . . . , k} of a graph G, an induced vertex coloring c is obtained by coloring the vertices with the greatest difference between incident edge labels. The local gap chromatic number χ∆(G) is ∗ Partially funded by NSF GK-12 Transforming Experiences Grant DGE-0742434. † Partially funded by Simons Foundation grant #276726. A. BRANDT ET AL. /AUSTRALAS. J. COMBIN. 65 (3) (2016), 200–211 201 the minimum k for which there exists an edge coloring such that c(u) 6= c(v) for all edges uv. We prove that χ(G) ≤ χ∆(G) ≤ χ(G) + 1 for all graphs G, where χ(G) denotes the chromatic number of G. Further, we provide graph classes attaining both bounds.

Pfaffian labelings and signs of edge colorings
We relate signs of edge-colorings (as in classical Penrose’s result) with “Pfaffian labelings”, a generalization of Pfaffian orientations, whereby edges are labeled by elements of an Abelian group with an element of order two. In particular, we prove a conjecture of Goddyn that all k-edge-colorings of a k-regular Pfaffian graph G have the same sign. We characterize graphs that admit a Pfaffian ...
متن کاملExploiting 2D Topology in Labeling Polyhedral Images
Abftract: A polyhedral image is a segmentation of the image plane into connected regions, called faces, joined by vertices and edges. The segmentation is represented by a planar network of nodes (vertices, edges, faces) linked by adjacency links. The labeling constraints at a node are all local labelings of the node consistent with itself and all its adjacent neighbors. The local labelings are ...
متن کاملGraceful labelings of the generalized Petersen graphs
A graceful labeling of a graph $G=(V,E)$ with $m$ edges is aninjection $f: V(G) rightarrow {0,1,ldots,m}$ such that the resulting edge labelsobtained by $|f(u)-f(v)|$ on every edge $uv$ are pairwise distinct. For natural numbers $n$ and $k$, where $n > 2k$, a generalized Petersengraph $P(n, k)$ is the graph whose vertex set is ${u_1, u_2, cdots, u_n} cup {v_1, v_2, cdots, v_n}$ and its edge set...
متن کاملConstructions of universalized Sierpiński graphs based on labeling manipulations
Sierpiński graphs are known to be graphs with self-similar structures, and their various properties have been investigated until now. Besides, they are known to be isomorphic to WK-recursive networks which have been proposed as interconnection networks because of their nice extendability. As a generalization (resp., variant) of Sierpiński graphs, generalized Sierpiński graphs (resp., extended S...
متن کاملGap vertex-distinguishing edge colorings of graphs
In this paper, we study a new coloring parameter of graphs called the gap vertexdistinguishing edge coloring. It consists in an edge-coloring of a graph G which induces a vertex distinguishing labeling of G such that the label of each vertex is given by the difference between the highest and the lowest colors of its adjacent edges. The minimum number of colors required for a gap vertex-distingu...
